DISTINCTIVE
ASPECTS OF THE COLLECTION
The branch holds an extensive African-American collection. The branch
has various literacy materials including books, videos and audiotapes. There are also many Spanish language materials.
RECURRING
PROGRAMMING OFFERED
Preschool story hours, and film programs are offered weekly for children. Reading
Readiness, a six-week program for preschool children is offered in the spring and the
fall.
SPECIAL
PROGRAMMING OFFERED
Summer reading clubs are offered for children as well as a variety of special programming
for children. The branch also has on-going art exhibits of the work of local
artists. The Egleston Square branch recently hosted a visit from the 54th
Massachusetts Volunteers, Civil War recreationists who specialize in the "Glory" brigade commemorated by film and statue.
HISTORY
Opened on July 8, 1953 the building was designed by the firm of Isidor Richmond and Carney
Goldberg, Architects and Engineers. The branch has a large landscaped back yard and the
Friends of the Egleston Square Branch have helped to landscape the front of the building.

A "Kids with Asthma Can ... " event held recently at the Egleston Square branch featured a performance of the play Buster has Asthma.
