The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners has announced the addition of the Boston Public Library
to its waiting list for Public Library Construction Grants. As a wait-listed library, the Boston Public Library is
slated to receive $4,541,658.00 towards its Mattapan Branch Construction Project, upon the release of funds
from the MBLC.

The new Mattapan Branch site is planned for the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Babson Street,
a central location that will anchor Mattapan's business district and be in easy reach for residents throughout
Mattapan.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2007.

For more than 70 years, the Mattapan Branch of the
Boston Public Library has provided library services to the residents of the community. The proposed new Mattapan
Branch will offer residents higher quality services to include expanded library collections, new technology applications,
more seating areas, better handicap accessibility, community rooms, a dedicated teen space, and parking.
