Continuing Education Guidelines

Who may attend:

Priority for Boston Region continuing education programs will be given, first, to staff in member libraries of the Boston Region; second, if registration for the program is limited, to additional persons from member libraries in the Boston Region; third, to staff in member libraries of other Massachusetts Regional Library Systems; and fourth, to staff in libraries not affiliated with a Regional Library System. (For the purposes of workshop attendance, employees of automated clusters or consortia who are serving member libraries of a given Regional Library System are considered as employees of that Regional Library System.)

Registration:

To register for any Boston Regional Library System Program, contact Garry Wong at 617-859-2389, or gwong@bpl.org.

Confirmation of registration:

If the program has no attendance limit, no confirmation will be sent.

If the program has an attendance limit, confirmations will be forwarded to the registrant by the method the registrant has indicated on the registration form. If an individual is placed on a waiting list, a notice of their "wait list" status will be sent to them. If a slot becomes available, individuals on the waiting list are notified in the following order: Boston Region member libraries not already sending staff; other Boston Region member staff; staff of other Massachusetts Regional Library Systems; staff of unaffiliated libraries. In each category potential registrants will be notified in the order in which their registration (including check for payment) was received.

Cancellation of registration:

If you sign up for one of the Boston Region continuing education programs and find that you cannot attend, please call and cancel to allow someone on the waiting list to attend.

Program cancellation:

Meetings may be canceled if registration is low. If the determination is made to cancel a program due to low registration, a notice will be faxed to the registrants and their checks returned.

For emergency weather cancellation - after 7:AM, a message on the answering machine of the Boston Region Office (617-859-2380) will update you on the status of the program for that day. Every effort will be made to reschedule a program, canceled for this reason, at a later date.
