BWH wins grant to serve those with disabilities
The Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) Michele and Howard Kessler Health Education Library has been awarded a two-year Serving People with Disabilities grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The sixth annual Museum and Library Archives Institute, sponsored by Monson Free Library and Reading Room Association, Museum of Fine Arts Boston Archives, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the New England Archivists, the New England Museum Association, will be held at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy, Wilbraham, Massachusetts, on June 25-26, 2004.
Librarian from Western Region Honored
Louis Battalen, Director of the Arms Library in Shelburne Falls, has been named one of the nation's 27 "Librarians of the Year" by the New York Times. He was the only Massachusetts librarian to receive one of these awards. A ceremony was held recently in New York City. Click here for more information.

Campaign will educate customers about ILL
Beginning in January, the "This Item Traveled Miles to Reach You Project" aims to put a little information about the value of Inter Library Loan and delivery into the hands of users. With each book, DVD or video, a specially-designed ILL slip will be made available to all libraries using ILL that lists a place for the patron's name, telephone number and date called.

Children's Librarian / Full Time, Hudson Public Library
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS or degree candidate in an MLS program.
Storytelling courses and/or experience and knowledge of children's literature
are required. Excellent communication and management/organizational skills are
essential, as well as the ability to function as a member of a team. Must be an
enthusiastic, energetic, flexible, and creative individual. Technology skills
necessary include Internet skills, Microsoft office applications, and
experience with Innovative Interfaces or other automated bibliographic and
circulation systems. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese desired. A genuine
desire and ability to work with children and adults is essential, as well as a
strong customer service ethic.
Duties: Supervise a busy, newly renovated Children's Room with one full-time assistant and several part-time support staff. Oversee all aspects of the Children's Room operation: reader's advisory and reference service, collection development, budget and grant management, community outreach, and planning and presentation of programs, events, and story hours from birth to age 12. Develop independent summer reading program with daily activities. Workweek is 37.5 hours; one evening per week and one Saturday per month. This position is a member of the AFSCME Clerical Union. Salary: $29,090 to $36,809 ($14.92 to $18.88/per hour) in 7 steps.
