| The
Boston Public Library mounts exhibitions from its own collections
and also cosponsors shows with many nonprofit educational, cultural,
and civic organizations. The exhibits cover a wide variety of topics,
some of local interest and others international in scope.
Due to insurance and security issues, we
almost never show original works of art. Most of our shows are photographic
or reproductions of original material. We seldom show the work of
a single artist; instead, we choose exhibitions on the basis of
subject matter with a preference toward those that are related in
some way to Boston, Massachusetts, and New England.
Exhibitors are required
to sign an insurance release form.
Selection concerning
upcoming exhibits is made after consultation among employees whose
duties include the selection and development of shows for the library's
exhibition spaces.
To apply for exhibit
space in the Central Library, send a brief letter describing the
subject of the exhibit -- noting the number of items included in
the exhibit as well as the size of various items. Include five or
six samples of the visuals (slides or photocopies) and accompanying
text. Mail the proposal to:
