Boston College Alumni Stadium

The new Boston College Alumni Stadium was opened in 1957 to serve as the home field for the Boston Eagles. Located on the Newton campus, overlooking the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, the new stadium replaced a smaller one also known as Boston College Alumni Stadium. The new stadium was constructed by the Bowen Construction Company in a remarkable 156 days and just as quickly became a focal point of local collegiate football. The first game was played on September 21, 1957 when the Eagles hosted Navy and were bested by the Midshipmen 46-6.

The original stadium seated 26,000 fans. In 1994 the stadium was enlarged, bringing the total total capacity to 44,500. The redesign included the construction of sideline bleachers and two-tiered structures added at each end-zone. Other architectural details were added to the stadium’s facade to blend into the local architecture.
