Greetings
First, I would like to thank The Compass Committee for their revision of Principle VII (Sustainable Organisation) to include and acknowledge the various Friends groups' role in the future of the BPL. They are and remain the most direct contact with the patron base in the neighbourhood branches and are a stabilising force for the continued viability of a strong and user-centered institution.

I see one great weakness in the proposed draft. Under Principle II (Community Gathering) the BPL continues to dodge the issue of accessability for all users. The BPL needs to step forward and be an example for the rest of the city to ELIMINATE (NOT reduce) physical barriers to accessability. With ADA 21 years on the books "long term plans" means NOW. I guarantee you the baby boomers will not be arriving at their branch library on skateboards.

Thank you for continuing the conversation.

Regards,
David J. Vieira
Acting President
Citywide Friends of the BPL
