Why use this database?
This database is useful for quick access to the illustrations and text available in a book, especially how-to and informational books.

Description: Net library is a collection of thousands of electronic books (eBooks) that can be viewed online from any PC connected to the internet. Subject collections range from computer applications manuals and "how-to's," and business and education to personal health, hobbies, popular psychology and literary criticism. Library users can create their own private account.

Availability and Use Restrictions:
Direct use available from inside the library or remotely with a BPL library card or Netlibrary user account.

NetLibrary Accounts
To read books online for more than 15 minutes, you need a free user account.

To activate your account:

  1. Click CREATE AN ACCOUNT.
  2. Fill in the form. Choose any user name and password that you can remember.
  3. Click SUBMIT.

To log into your account after activation:

  1. Type your user name and password in the boxes in the right column on the screen.
  2. Click LOG IN below the form.
  3. Click EBOOKSHELF to display a list of books that you have checked out.

Searching

  1. Type a word or phrase in any of the SEARCH THIS EBOOK COLLECTION boxes. Use quotation marks around phrases.

Combining terms
Use OR to connect similar terms.
OR broadens your search.
Example: cat or dog

Truncating terms
Use * to replace one of more characters at the end of a search term.

Example: environment* retrieves Environment, environmental, environments)

Proximity Searching
Use quotation marks around phrases.
Example: "Microsoft Windows"

Author Searching

  1. Click in the AUTHOR box and type the last name and first name (in either order)
    Example: Gralla Preston
  2. Click SEARCH

Displaying Search Results
Brief records matching the last search are automatically displayed.

  1. Use the scroll bar to move through records. (Or) Click the arrow in the SORT BY box to change the sorting order of your results. Click GO!
  2. Click on red arrows at bottom of screen to display next or previous records.
  3. Click on the title of a book to select reading option. Click RETURN TO SEARCH RESULTS to return to the list of titles.
  4. Click BROWSE THIS EBOOKONLINE to view a book. After 15 minutes, the eBook may be requested by someone else. To return to the list of titles, click CLOSE EBOOK: then click SEARCH RESULTS.
  5. To reserve a book for your use for 24 hours you must log into your free NetLibrary user account and the click CHECK OUT AND READ ONLINE.

Selecting Records

  1. Select a book for later reading, or emailing by logging into your NetLibrary account.

Reading eBooks Online

  1. Click CHECK OUT AND READ ONLINE (and log in if needed) to check out this eBook for 24 hours. See instructions below for returning eBooks to the library.
  2. Click on red arrows in upper right corner to move to the next and previous pages.
  3. Move to a specific page by typing a number in the page number box. Click GO!
  4. Click TOC in left window to view the Table of Contents. Click the TOC entry to go to that section of the book.
  5. Click on FIND in the left window to jump to a word or phrase in the FIND WITHIN box. Click GO!

Printing Search Results
To print a list of search results you must be viewing the results. To print a page from an eBook, you must be viewing the page. Printing a range of pages at one time is not available.

  1. Click on your browser's FILE menu and select PRINT PREVIEW.
  2. Make sure the pages are what you want. If you are using this database within a BPL location there is a charge for computer printing.
  3. Click PRINT.
  4. Click OK or PRINT.

Downloading Search Results
It is possible to save a page by using your browsers File > Save As command but all elements of the page are saved and it makes quite a large file.

E-Mailing Search Results
The e-mail option is not available with this database.

Returning eBooks to the Library
eBooks will automatically be returned when their 24 hour checkout period expires. To return them before they are due:

  1. Click EBOOKSHELF.
  2. Click in the box next to GO! And select CHECK IN EBOOK.
  3. Click GO!
