Ireland’s Shaksperiana
William Henry Ireland
1796

William Henry Ireland (1775-1835) is one of the most infamous forgery artists in the history of western literature. Ireland’s father Samuel was an amateur scholar and a collector of Shakespearean relics. At age nineteen, in an apparent attempt to impress his father, William Henry began “finding” long-lost manuscripts and letters by Shakespeare.
