The Swede Life
The Göta Canal cuts across southern Sweden and is one of the country´s most popular tourist destinations. Vacationers board steamships and travel slowly past ruins, medieval churches, picturesque small towns, thousands of small islands, and lush forests. Over two million people visit the canal each year on pleasure cruises and related activities.
Built between 1810 – 1832, the Göta Canal recently celebrated its 175th anniversary. It won the “Swedish Construction of the Millennium” award and features the oldest continuously operating passenger boat in the world.
