No Business Like Snow Business
Ski posters first emerged in the early 1900s and were designed to allure and educate the public about an emerging, exotic winter sport. Combining travel, sports, and fashion, they transported their city-bound viewers to glamorous, snowy mountain peaks throughout Europe and the United States. Vintage posters depicting popular ski destinations are steadily gaining popularity among modern collectors.
Austrian-born lithographer Joseph Binder was interested in the psychological impact of bold colors and celebrated for his reduction of images into spare geometric forms in his posters.
