Cool + Collected: Treasures of the Boston Public Library
June 2009 through June 2010
Boston Public Library, Copley Square, 700 Boylston Street (Johnson Lobby)
The Boston Public Library was founded in 1848 as the first free municipal library in the United States. Cool & Collected: Treasures of the Boston Public Library showcased the extraordinary and dedicated public investment by the citizens of Boston—past and present—in supporting the BPL as a flagship intellectual, historical, and cultural institution.
This year-long exhibition celebrated over 160 years of collecting by the BPL and featured some of the most beautiful, rare, and unexpected holdings from the library’s rich special collections. Enjoy these gems from the BPL’s collections, revisit some old favorites, and discover a few new surprises as well.
This exhibition was made possible through the generous support of the Susan and Brian Clancy Charitable Fund and the Boston Public Library Foundation.
