Nick Rose in the Central Library’s Washington Room

Hi, my name is Nick Rose and I want to share my story with you. The other day I was hanging out in the library’s Teen Room when someone asked me, “What are the three things that you never leave home without?” I answered, “Phone, wallet, keys.” Then I laughed because I realized the fourth thing would be my library card, which is always tucked in my phone case.  And given what it represents, I should have listed it first, even before my phone which, trust me, is saying a lot!

For me, my library card is the best gift I’ve ever received and I’m writing today to tell you how it’s changed my life, and to thank you for supporting the Boston Public Library Foundation. (more…)

Happy Holidays from the Boston Public Library Foundation

Winter_Card_2013

The decorations are up in Copley Square, which means the holiday season is once again here! And thanks to the support of the Boston Public Library Foundation by wonderful friends like you, neighbors young and old throughout our city will greet the season in a myriad of ways.

Your gifts mean that visitors to the Central Library and the neighborhood branches will soon hear parents and preschoolers singing favorites like “Jingle Bells” during a sing-along or story hour.

Older children and teens in crafts programs will be making cards, decorations and hand-made gifts. Adults will be visiting over the holidays to enjoy programs of all kinds or simply downloading content to their e-readers to enjoy at home.

And patrons in East Boston have just unwrapped a gift that will serve generations to come: a new library at 365 Bremen Street! As a welcoming gathering place in a growing neighborhood, this sun-filled space will support the Boston Public Library’s strategic plan, Compass, to serve and sustain each one of our communities – communities that, like your own, foster discovery, reading, thinking, conversing, teaching and life-long learning.

From your dedicated support, this is clearly a vision we share. Let’s continue to serve and sustain that vision into a brand new year!

Please click here to make a special year end contribution to the Boston Public Library Foundation. Give a gift to yourself and your loved ones… through all the programs and services your library provides. Thanks again – and happy holidays!
