Want to start the New Year off by doing something special? Joining the Boston Public Library Foundation Partner Program will make 2014 a great year for you… and the library!

Last year, The BPLF introduced the Partners Program as a way to enhance your experience at the Boston Public Library. Through the Partners Program, library patrons and supporters have access to exclusive benefits, including commemorative items, discounts, and event invitations.

For those that joined last year, thank you! By partnering with the Foundation, you helped the Boston Public Library provide free access to the vast collections cherished by all ages… and also story and music time, author talks, educational programs, arts and crafts activities, special exhibitions, and more. Make sure to renew your membership today to ensure you continue to receive your benefits. If you’re not a Partner yet, click here to join today!

You can find out more about Partner benefits by clicking here. Of course, the most important benefit of partnering with the BPLF is knowing that, as a Foundation Partner, you are helping the Boston Public Library to be not just the nation’s first library, but the nation’s best public library, free to all!

Happy Holidays from the Boston Public Library Foundation

The decorations are up in Copley Square, which means the holiday season is once again here! And thanks to the support of the Boston Public Library Foundation by wonderful friends like you, neighbors young and old throughout our city will greet the season in a myriad of ways.

Your gifts mean that visitors to the Central Library and the neighborhood branches will soon hear parents and preschoolers singing favorites like “Jingle Bells” during a sing-along or story hour.

Older children and teens in crafts programs will be making cards, decorations and hand-made gifts. Adults will be visiting over the holidays to enjoy programs of all kinds or simply downloading content to their e-readers to enjoy at home.

And patrons in East Boston have just unwrapped a gift that will serve generations to come: a new library at 365 Bremen Street! As a welcoming gathering place in a growing neighborhood, this sun-filled space will support the Boston Public Library’s strategic plan, Compass, to serve and sustain each one of our communities – communities that, like your own, foster discovery, reading, thinking, conversing, teaching and life-long learning.

From your dedicated support, this is clearly a vision we share. Let’s continue to serve and sustain that vision into a brand new year!

The 20th Annual Boston Public Library Foundation Gala

Posted on November 20th, 2013 by Russell Hansen in Foundation

The 2013 Boston Public Library Foundation Gala was a huge success, raising over $775,000 to support the Boston Public Library! The event, held on Friday, November 15th, took place entirely in the Johnson Building for the first time. Over 300 people dined, danced, and supported the work of the Foundation and the Out-of-school Time programs of the library.  We are honored to have awarded the first Joshua Bates Prize for the Advancement of Learning Thomas M. Menino for his visionary leadership and his dedication to the Boston Public Library. A special thank you to our lead sponsor, Fidelity Investments, as well as the other generous sponsors who made this year such a success. Enjoy these beautiful photographs from Life Fusion Photography that showcase the event. Click on the photos to see a video slideshow.

This year, we introduced our newly developed BPLF Partners Program, a program to say “thank you” to our supporters, and “welcome” to those who’d like to get more involved with the Boston Public Library Foundation.

The Partners Program offers exclusive benefits at every giving level, benefits like discounts to the BPL’s restaurants and retail store, reserved seating at lectures and author talk, and behind-the-scenes tours of the distinctive BPL collections. See more about the benefits here, and sign on to be a member by giving at whatever level you prefer.

Of course, we know that the most important benefit of partnering with the BPLF is knowing that you are supporting the Boston Public Library and all the critical services it offers throughout our city.

Last year alone, the Boston Public Library:

  • hosted more than 10,000 public programs, over 5,000 of which were for children
  • lent out more than 3.8 million books and audiovisual materials
  • received more than 7.8 million visits to its web site
  • helped more than 37,000 Boston residents sign up for library cards
  • hosted more than 800,000 free computer sessions
  • welcomed more than 3.4 million visitors

Imagine what more we could do, through your partnership, and the partnership of hundreds of people like you. Think big for Boston. Become a BPLF Partner today.
