At the December 1st meeting of the Board of Directors of the Boston Public Library Foundation (BPLF), Jeff Hawkins was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. In September, Ron O’Hanley announced that he would be stepping down after seven years as Chairman. Ron has served on the BPLF Board for twelve years, and he will remain on the BPLF Board to offer his assistance to Jeff and his fellow directors during the transition.
Jeff Hawkins has served on the BPLF Board since 2004. He is currently Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Sankaty Advisors in Boston, an independently managed affiliate of Bain Capital, LLC. Under Jeff’s leadership, the BPLF will continue to fulfill its mission of supporting the Boston Public Library and its Compass: Strategic Plan. Jeff’s experience and leadership will be vital to the BPLF and its Board as we work with the BPL during the ongoing Central Library renovations, and support programming and service needs at the Central Library and 24 branches.
“I have been a devoted user and supporter of the Boston Public Library for years and I am honored to now serve as Chairman of the Foundation. Boston Public Library has been an innovator since its founding in 1848 and it continues to have a profound impact on the City of Boston. This is an exciting time in the life of BPL —from the renovation of the Johnson Building to expanding programming in the BPL’s 24 branches –and I look forward to being a part of it.”– Jeff Hawkins, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Boston Public Library Foundation
