The Associates of the Boston Public Library (BPL) held the eleventh annual "Literary Lights for Children" awards ceremony and tea party at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009. The award winners – Sook Nyul Choi, Katherine Paterson, Brian Selznick, David Small and Sarah Stewart were enthusiastically honored for their wide-reaching contributions to children’s literature. The authors chosen as this year’s "Literary Lights" have collectively won dozens of major awards for their inspiring books, written for children and young adults.

The Associates of the Boston Public Library is pleased to announce that the tenth annual "Literary Lights for Children" event was a wonderful afternoon held on Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the Bates Reading Room at the Boston Public Library. It was particularly exciting to have the 10th Anniversary in the Library for the first time!
The Associates was happy to have Lois Lowry as a Special 10th Anniversary Guest. Winner of the Newbry Award and author of such classics as The Giver, Number the Stars and the Anastasia Series, Lois shared some of her thoughts on writing and literacy. The honored authors, Susan Cooper, Christopher Paul Curtis, Laura Amy Schlitz and Chris Van Allsburg received awards from Tiffany & Co., and were introduced by Boston area students.
