Boston Public Library
Overdue Notices and Bills

Borrowing and Circulating Information

All notices to users – both reserve request notifications and overdue alerts – are transmitted only via telephone or e-mail. The Boston Public Library no longer sends library notices through the U.S. Post. Borrowers can check their library account online at any time, either in the library or at home, by using the BPL's online catalog.

  • Material is due on the date stamped on the receipt printed at time of checkout. Please make note of new due dates on materials renewed by phone or online. Material should be returned no later than that date.

  • Charges for items overdue by more than 30 days include the replacement cost of the item(s).

  • If the item is returned, an overdue fine will be charged rather than the replacement cost.

  • The borrower is responsible for knowing the date materials are due.

  • Questions regarding overdue material should be directed to the location materials at which they are due at or in person at any BPL location. Telephone numbers for all locations are listed here.
