Welcome to the Home Page of the City-Wide Friends of the Boston Public Library. The Friends was founded in 1987 for the purpose of: 

  1. Promoting public awareness of the Boston Public Library system and its resources, 
  2. Furthering appreciation of the value of the Library as a cultural and educational asset, 
  3. Supporting and linking the activities of Branch Library Friends groups, and 
  4. Encouraging volunteers to assist the Library. 

The Friends run a number of programs to support the Library and community, including: 

  • Friends Forum - our quarterly newsletter, 
  • Book Sales, 
  • Adult Literacy Program, 
  • Communications with Branch Friends. 

Booksale Volunteers Needed
The City-Wide Friends group is always looking for volunteers to assist us with our booksales both the Saturday before the event as well as the booksale day itself.  See the booksale link for a complete list of dates.  We have other volunteer needs as well, so please let us know if you can help.

Membership Volunteers Needed

Are you looking for a great way to get involved and help your library? How about becoming a member of the Membership Committee of the City-Wide Friends of the Boston Public Library. Duties include: coordinating a membership team, staffing the membership table at book sales, stocking membership materials, processing and acknowledging memberships, maintaining the membership database in MS Access, and developing a community outreach program.
