A meeting of the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee was held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Dudley Branch Library, 65 Warren Street, Roxbury, MA 02119 at 12:00 p.m.
Present at the meeting were: Trustees Fellows Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee Chair, Trustee Evelyn Arana-Ortiz, Selection Committee Members: Ms. Sarah-Ann Shaw, Friends of the Dudley Branch Library; Ms. Che Madyum, Friends of the Dudley Branch Library; Ms. Christine Schonhart, Boston Public Library Manager of Branch Libraries.. Also attending: Ms. Inez Foster, Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Fund Consultant/Project Manager; and Ms Nancy Grilk, Clerk of the Board. Unable to attend: Ms. Janet Buda, Dudley Branch Librarian.
Trustees Fellows Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee (Committee) Chair Evelyn Arana-Ortiz presided.
Chair Arana-Ortiz reviewed the agenda and following a brief discussion, the Committee approved the meeting agenda.
The Chair addressed the first item of business, pertaining to the Minutes of the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee held on Friday, July 29, 2011. On a motion made and duly seconded, the Minutes of the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee meeting held on July 29, 2011 were approved and subsequently posted on the Boston Public Library’s web site at www.bpl.org.
Ms. Foster provided a program update for the period October through December 2011. As a result of unsuccessful contract negotiation, $8,500 of previously approved FY12 funding was available. The Committee reviewed recommendations to re-allocate the funds for arts and adult education programming as follows: an extension of the existing contract for Carlos Vargas & Inesa Gegprifti piano lessons and recitals to include evening classes; Steadfast Solutions one-hour drop-in computer classes; and, Boston Higher Education Resource Center Spanish Computer Literacy program classes. Ms. Foster reviewed a pending contract for the March 22, 2012 Urban League Job Opportunity Fair. Discussion followed regarding an amendment reducing the recommended piano lesson appropriation to a total of $1,700.
On an amended motion duly made, and seconded, it was
VOTED: that, the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Advisory Committee approved the re-allocation of $8,100 of previously approved FY12 funding for new funding recommendations, as amended in the amount of $8,100.
Ms. Foster reported on the Urban League Job Opportunity Fair to be held at the Dudley Branch and Dudley Literacy Center on March 22, 2012.
The Committee approved a meeting schedule.
There being no further business, the Committee voted to adjourn the meeting at 12:58 p.m.
