A meeting of the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee was held on Monday, August
6, 2012 at the Dudley Branch Library, 65 Warren Street, Roxbury, MA 02119 at 12:00 p.m.
Present at the meeting were: Trustees Fellows Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee Chair and Trustee Evelyn Arana-Ortiz, Selection Committee Members: Ms. Sarah-Ann Shaw, Friends of the Dudley Branch Library; Ms. Christine Schonhart, Boston Public Library Manager of Branch Libraries. Also attending: Ms. Inez Foster, Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Fund Consultant/Project Manager; Ms. JoAnne Butler, Coordinator of Literacy Services at the Dudley Literacy Center; Ms Nancy Grilk, Clerk of the Board; and, City Councilor Tito Jackson.
Unable to attend: Ms. Che Madyum, Friends of the Dudley Branch Library.
Trustees Fellows Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee (Committee) Chair Evelyn Arana-Ortiz presided.
Chair Arana-Ortiz reviewed the agenda and following a brief discussion, the Committee approved the meeting agenda.
The Chair addressed the first item of business, pertaining to the Minutes of the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee held on Monday, May 14, 2012. On a motion made and duly seconded, the Minutes of the Trustees Fellowes Athenaeum Trust Advisory Committee meeting held on May 14, 2012 were approved and subsequently posted on the Boston Public Library’s web site at www.bpl.org
Councilor Jackson expressed his appreciation to the Committee for their great work.
The Committee reviewed the Fellowes Notices of Intent – 6/22/2012. Ms. Foster reported that a total of 20 requests were received: 16 requests were received timely, 2 arrived past the deadline, and 2 were incomplete. The Committee reviewed and discussed each of the proposals and voted to recommend 11 grants to the Trustees for FY13: Boston Community Centers, Inc. for Boston Center for Youth & Families for GED testing, Citi Performing Arts Center for an interactive Arts Festival, Dimock Center, Inc. for an occupational resource fair, Garrett Pressley Autism Resource Center, Inc./LAUGHS, Inc. for workshops on social skills for autistic teens, Hawthorne Youth & Community Center, Inc. for training in the history and performance of spiritual music and a performance, Jemadari Kamara, Ph.D. lectures on humanities, John Kordalewski, Ph .D. lectures on the composition and performance of jazz music plus 2 live performances, MathPOWER, Inc. for workshops on Boston Public School math curriculum, Mssng Lnks, Inc. voice lessons for teens, Roxbury Community College Foundation, Inc./RCC GED Department GED practice tests, counseling and referrals, and Carlos Vargas, MM for classical piano lesson and 3 recitals.
The next meeting will be scheduled in January 2013.
There being no further business or public comment, the meeting adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
