Mission

The Young Professionals of the Boston Public Library celebrate the rich history and promising future of America’s first public library and branch library system. Through behind-the-scenes viewings of the library’s hidden treasures, lectures, tours, fundraising benefits and provision of volunteer services, the Young Professionals strive to support the library, to increase awareness of and access to its vast resources and to enhance its vital role in Boston's diverse neighborhoods.

Who We Are

The Young Professionals are a dynamic group of emerging leaders in a variety of fields who share an interest in literacy, scholarship, cultural enrichment and learning. We welcome all young (and young-at-heart) community members who are interested in supporting and learning about the library.

Service Opportunities

Young Professionals also have the opportunity to provide volunteer assistance for a number of library programs. Young Professionals have worked with high school students who tutor in the library’s Homework Assistance Program, volunteered at the Read Your Way to Fenway event at Fenway Park and assisted with various children’s programs.

How to Get Involved

There are numerous ways to get involved with the Young Professionals. You can join a committee, volunteer for a service project, make a financial contribution and/or attend events. Young Professional committees include the Event Series Committee, which plans social and educational events, the Communications and Technology Committee, which focuses on recruiting, marketing and communications with the Young Professionals, and committees for each fundraiser event. We also maintain a list of Young Professionals interested in volunteering and service opportunities.

To learn more about the Young Professionals, contact us at yp@bpl.org or (617) 859-2145 or via the Executive Committee co-chair Alec Stern at astern@constantcontact.com.
