If you have sold any stocks or mutual funds this year and need declare capital gains or losses on your taxes, Kirstein has a variety of resources to help you find historic trading prices for the date of purchase or sale.
Print Resources:
Kirstein has the Daily Stock Price record in print for NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX from 1962 onward. The NASDAQ books include stock prices for Banks, Industrial Stocks, and Mutual Funds. We also have several sources such as Moody’s, the National Stock Summary, Moody’s/Mergent handbook of NYSE and NASDAQ stocks, which will give stock price ranges for dates prior to 1962. Our Microtext Department has a full set of the Wall Street Journal on Microfilm from 1889-2009 which can be used to find daily stock prices for those date ranges. Electronic Resources:
If you are looking for a more recent stock price, Kirstein offers databases that will give historic stock prices electronically. Mergent Online and Business and Company Resource center are both available remotely with a Boston Public Library card or ecard card. If you are a resident of Massachusetts but don’t have a card with us you can apply for an ecard, which will grant you instant access to our electronic resources.

Search by company name or ticker on the main page, and then click on the equity pricing tab once in the company profile page. Includes active and inactive stocks. View guides on how to use Mergent Online to find stock prices here or here. - Standard and Poors Net Advantage (Prices from 1984-current)
Click on Daily Price Record on the top of the page. Enter the company name or ticker in the search box and specify a time period. Includes active and inactive stocks, and a separate dividend search. This database is available for use only in Library. - Business and Company Resource Center (Prices from 2000-current)
Click on Advanced Search and select Financials from the drop down menu of Content Area, then enter the ticker symbol. Includes active stocks only. - Historic New York Times (1851-2007)
Click on Advanced search in the main search page. Limit document type to Stock Quote and limit by date. You could also try a keyword search by company name. Remember that stock prices will be published for the previous days trading. Search will result with pdf scan of stock exchange record from historic paper. This database is available for use only in Library.

Capital Changes Reports (CCH)
Kirstein maintains holdings of CCH in print and offers access the electronic database for use only in Library. Each entry in Capital Changes contains a chronological history of the stock’s changes in corporate capital structure, including name changes, mergers, spin-offs, bankruptcy filings, stock splits, and other information which may help to determine an old stock’s current worth.
