Online Dating Industry

online datingAccording to Market Share Reporter 2013, online dating web sites generated revenues of $1.33 billion and 53% of total matchmaking and dating service industry revenues in 2011. Match.com was the leader with revenues of $480 million, eHarmony had $270 million and Friendfinder $233 million.

Two Bowling Green State University professors of gerontology are conducting ongoing research research about online dating for seniors.  A shortage of data about older adults and internet dating prompted Dr. Wendy K. Watson and Dr. Charlie Stelle to ivestigate the phenomenon.  They have found that individuals over the age of 60 are the fastest growing demographic in online dating.  For more on online dating, the Boston Public Library has:
