Congratulations to the MIT DARPA Robotics Challenge Team!
Sixteen teams from around the world competed from December 20-21, 2013 in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ’s Robotics Challenge Trials. The Challenge demonstrates the potential for the use of robots in disaster response.
The team from MIT took fourth place with the Atlas robot built by Boston Dynamics and will advance to the finals next year. The team developed algorithms and user interfaces to aid a human operator paired with the robot to carry out a series of tasks such as walking over uneven terrain, entering and driving a small utility vehicle, and using tools. For more on the robotics industry or Boston Dynamics, try Business insights: Essentials and Business and Industry available to Massachusetts residents with a Metro Boston Library Network card or an ecard.
