Food and Drug Administration Approves Biogen Idec Hemophilia Drug

biogen idecTwo months after the Food and Drug Administration approved the first new hemophilia treatment in 17 years, its maker, Biogen Idec Inc., got approval on June 6 to market a drug that controls and prevents bleeding in adults and children with the most common form of the disease, hemophilia A.

An estimated 16,000 people in the United States have hemophilia A.
