According to Bankrate.com, Boston is the 6th best city in the United States to start a career because of its pay potential, opportunities for career advancement, and quality of life. Boston’s higher-than-average share of 20- to 29-year-olds means new arrivals should find plenty of social opportunities. On the down side, Boston’s lackluster unemployment rate among 20- to 24-year-olds suggests some troubles for newcomers in finding entry-level positions.

According to a report in Blood Horse “The Massachusetts Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and the Carney Family, owners of the Brockton Fairgrounds, have finalized a two-year purse agreement for 30 days of live racing at the facility in 2016 and 2017.
“We have a deal,” said Chris Carney. “We don’t have any dates set yet. We have to go back to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to see how much money is approved, but we’re looking at purses of about $150,000 per day, depending upon how much we’ll have allocated from the Race Horse Development Fund.”
Live racing was last held at the Brockton Fairgrounds in 2001.

The 120th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18, 2016, and surrounding Marathon-related events including the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo and the B.A.A. 5K, will bring an estimated $188.8 million dollars in spending impact to the Greater Boston region, according to Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) President and CEO Patrick Moscaritolo.
The estimated $188.8 million dollars in spending impact will be generated from the following categories:
Total spending by more than 30,000 runners and
their guests at Marathon & Marathon related events $103.3 million
Charity fundraising by Marathon participants $28.0 million
Total spending by spectators and visitors at
Marathon & Marathon related events $30.8 million
Total sponsor and media-related spending $15.2 million
Total spending by the Boston Athletic Association $11.5 million
TOTAL $188.8 million
