Booklists for Kids

Matt Tavares

(Booklist by Sarah Pennell)

Mudball 2005
In 1903, Andy Oyler, the shortest player in baseball, hit the only home run of his career. It is also the shortest homerun in baseball history. Oyler's bat connects with the ball, which then gets lost in the wet, muddy infield.

Oliver’s Game 2004
Oliver loves working in his grandfather's baseball memorabilia store, right across from Wrigley Field. When he finds an old Cubs uniform, he is amazed to find that it belonged to his grandfather.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
or Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas
2002
This classic Christmas poem is printed in its original form, including the spellings and phrasings of 1832 and is complemented with his pencil illustrations.

Zachary’s Ball 2000
Zachary's father takes him to Fenway Park for his first baseball game. The magic begins when his dad catches a pop fly. The soft-focus pencil drawings complement the text well, giving a feeling of the past.
