Boston Public Schools Summer Reading Lists
Grades 9-12  1998

Dear Parents:

I am most pleased to present the Boston Public Schools' Summer Booklist. As you know, the Boston Public Schools has vision for the future -- Focus on Children.   This is reflected in city-wide learning standards, new assessments, an emphasis on early literacy, the Read Boston initiative and the literacy focus in our schools through the Boston Public Schools Whole-School Change Plan.

The books listed in this flyer are available in your local neighborhood library so that they will be available to you and your child all summer long.

I count on your efforts to communicate the higher standards called for in our state and city.  Your example, encouragement, and support of your child's reading will go a long way toward helping us meet the student learning goals that we all share.

Summer gives you more time to help your child develop a love for books and reading. The staff of the Boston Public Schools and the Boston Public Library are ready and willing to assist you in planning a summer reading program for your child.

Happy Reading!

Sincerely,

DR. THOMAS PAYZANT
Superintendent
Boston Public Schools
