Dear Parents and Students:

We have selected the following list of books as summer reading for the children entering Grade 5. You are required to read four books and ten poems. After you read each selection, please record the title and the author on the Required Reading Book Log or Required Reading Poetry Log. Also, be sure to have your parents sign the logs after you read each book and poem.

Please read the following three required books:

For your fourth book, you may select one of the books on the Recommended Reading List. Read ten poems from the books on the Recommended Poetry Reading List. These do not have to be from ten different books.

You are also required to complete the three activities in this packet.

Activity 1: For the book that you chose from the Dear America series, please complete one of the following activity choices: Map Maker or Compare/Contrast Chart.

Activity 2: For the book, Time for Andrew, please complete the Extra, Extra, Extra Project.

Activity 3: After reading the ten poetry selections from the Recommended Poetry Reading List, please complete the Diamante activity.

On the first day of school, please bring your Book Log, Poetry Log and your three activities with you. We hope that you enjoy these excellent children's literature selections. Have a wonderful summer!
