Dear
Parents:
I am most pleased to present the Boston Public Schools' Summer Booklist.
As you know, the Boston Public Schools has a vision for the future
-- Focus on Children II. This is reflected in city-wide
learning standards, new assessments, an emphasis on early literacy,
the Read Boston initiative and the literacy focus in our schools through
the Boston Public Schools Whole-School Improvement Plans.
The books listed in this letter are available through your local
neighborhood library so that they will be available to you and your
child all summer long. Be sure to ask your librarian for additional
titles.
I count on your efforts to communicate the higher standards called
for in our state and city. Your example, encouragement, and
support of your child's reading will go a long way toward helping
us meet the high student learning goals that we all share.
Summer gives you more time to help your child develop a love for
books and reading. The staff of the Boston Public Schools and the
Boston Public Library are ready and willing to assist you in planning
a summer reading program for your child.
Happy Reading!
Sincerely,
DR. THOMAS PAYZANT
Superintendent
