Mayor Menino Will Lead Celebration At Boston Public Library's Parker Hill Branch
December 5, 2005
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and the staff of the Boston Public Library’s Parker Hill Branch will welcome back neighbors to the recently renovated branch at a grand opening celebration.
The celebration will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 8 at the Parker Hill Branch of the Boston Public Library.
Free family activities will include refreshments, performances, crafts, juggling, face painting and balloon animals.
The popular branch re-opened in September after an extensive renovation project. Since that time staff have been welcoming back neighbors, planning programs for the community and re-stocking the shelves with current and classic books and movies.
Parker Hill residents have noticed a new handicapped accessible entrance and landscaping. Everyone entering the building will see new flooring, freshly painted walls, and renovated restrooms. A new elevator provides access to the meeting room and restrooms on the lower level.
The branch is busy once again. Programs for adults and children have resumed, tutors are available for Homework Assistance and circulation is increasing.
Parker Hill, and all Boston Public Library branches, offer a wide variety of programs that include story times and a Homework Assistance Program for children, as well as book discussion groups, ESL and computer classes, and films, concerts and lectures for teens and families.
Further schedule details will be forthcoming on the BPL website www.bpl.org or by calling the branch at 617-427-3820.
The branch is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
