BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY TO HOST
THREE-DAY ‘BASEBALL IN DECEMBER’ EVENT
November 18, 2005
For those baseball enthusiasts who can’t get enough of our national pastime, the Boston Public Library will host a “Baseball in December” holiday event, December 1-3, featuring an autograph session with Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky as well as several book signings and a collection of sports memorabilia items available for purchase.
Pesky’s autograph session will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, in the main library’s Johnson Building lobby. He will autograph visitors’ memorabilia and also prints from the library’s collection of Red Sox items that will be available for purchase at the event.
Other special autograph sessions will feature Peter Nash, author of Boston’s Royal Rooters, from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, December 2, and Christian Teja, author of Suffolk Downs, from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. Both authors drew heavily from material that is contained in the library’s extensive sports archives while researching their books.
In addition to the three special autograph sessions, many unique items from the library’s sports collection will be on sale throughout the three-day event. Items available for purchase will include holiday cards; reproductions of photographs and vintage advertisements featuring the Boston Red Sox, Boston Braves, Suffolk Downs, Harvard College, and the 1913 U.S. Open Golf Tournament; and t-shirts, tote bags, and other novelty items.
The Boston Public Library holiday event will take place from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1; from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 2; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. Proceeds from the event will be used to help support other library programs.
