NOVELIST AMY TAN WILL SPEAK AT BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
October 6, 2005
Bestselling author Amy Tan will read from her new novel, Saving Fish from Drowning, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2005 at the Rabb Lecture Hall, at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square.
Saving Fish from Drowning is a provocative new novel from the popular author of The Joy Luck Club and The Bonesetter's Daughter.
The story, based on actual events, begins when eleven Americans embark on an ill-fated art expedition into Burma. Through twists of fate, curses, and just plain human error, they find themselves deep in the jungle, where they encounter a tribe that will protect them from the Myanmar military regime.
The author weaves in elements of magician's tricks and light comedy, while telling a gripping morality tale about the consequences of intentions-both good and bad.
Barnes & Noble, co-sponsors of the program, will sell books and Ms. Tan will sign them following the reading.
Amy Tan is also the author of The Kitchen God's Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, and The Opposite of Fate: Memories of a Writing Life, and two children's books, The Moon Lady and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat. Her work has been translated into 36 languages.
