Cleaning and Mold Remediation in the Rare Books Department Begins

by mschuler

Nearly 20 crew members from Polygon, experts in temporary climate solutions and document recovery services, are cleaning and remediating mold in the Boston Public Library’s Rare Books Department. Working their way through the department’s 500,000 titles, the crews are using HEPA vacuums and dry sponges to complete a cover to cover, 6-side cleaning of each book in the collection. The methodical shelf by shelf, stack by stack work began on Monday, September 28 in the Rare Books Reading Room, and will continue for the next 5 to 10 weeks until each title has been cleaned.
