Wharf Near Summer St

WHARF NEAR SUMMER STREET, FORT POINT CHANNEL
Boston Wharf Co. Photograph - c.1898
Printed by Todd Gieg

Note: Looking toward the Boston side of the Channel from the South Boston side, the construction of the South Station wall along the Channel is visible in the background. It is possible that this set of negatives was part of a campaign by the Boston Wharf Co. to take advantage of the economic benefits that the construction of South Station would soon bring to the area. Although South Station would primarily serve passenger lines, it could not be bad for business to be in close proximity to what would soon be the "Gateway to Boston". Walk out of South Station, take a right on Summer Street, walk over a bridge and you were in a prime commercial location.
