Inspired Poetry

by Mary

On Thursday, as part of National Poetry Month, the Central Library Teen Room, held its second poetry workshop: Inspired Poetry. Teens chose pictures that gave them inspiration to write free verse poetry. Here are a few examples:

“Time Dragon”

Mechanical Dragon
Keeps watch/on time
Dolling it out
60 seconds
Per minute
60 minutes
Per hour
24 hours
Per Day
The mechanical dragon
Allows no one
To Steal
Even a second.

He spreads
Metallic wings
And screetches,
His tail
Whipping out,
Claws ready
To sink into
The unexpected hand.

Time cannot
Be borrowed
For it cannot
Be given back.

“A Cat’s Life”
I wakeup
Stretch
I eat
Stretch
I scratch
I wash
I go out
I stretch
I watch
I duck
Those birds can’t see me
I duck
That dog can’t see me
I duck
Wait, that cat better see me
I duck
I watch
I stretch
I go in
I stretch
I eat
I scratch
I wash
I stretch
I sleep
I purr
The end.
