Learn to Knit at the Library!

Posted on January 7th, 2014 by Anna in Events, Programs

We welcome teens aged 12-18 to learn how to knit in this weekly one hour workshop on basic knitting.

The workshop will take place in the Central Library Teen Room from 3pm-4pm each of the three days.

January 8th: You’ll learn the most basic knitting stitch there is: the knit stitch.

January 15th: We’ll continue working on the knit stitch and then we’ll go over how to finish a project, otherwise known as casting-off.

January 29th: You’ve learned to knit, and cast-off, now we’ll learn the hard part: starting a project, known as casting-on.

Students will be given a ball of yarn and a pair of needles for the workshop. Those who wish to continue knitting at home should bring their own size nine needles.

But wait… knitting is for guys too!

Knitting in the Teen Room … on TV!

Posted on September 16th, 2011 by Anna in Events

Hey all,

For those of you interested in our knitting workshop, or just want a peek into the cool times spent in the Teen Room at the Central Branch of the Boston Public Library, you can catch a 12 minute clip of the workshop we had here two weeks ago on TV!

That’s right. If you have Comcast the clip will be on channel 9 and if you have RCN it will be on channel 15. What time, you ask? Here’s the schedule:

September 21st @ 8:30pm

September 23rd @ 4:30pm

September 25th @ 7:00am

And if you were a part of that workshop tell all your friends and family you’ll be on TV… three times! How sweet is that?

Teen Knitting Club!

Posted on January 6th, 2011 by Anna in Programs

Have you ever wanted to learn how to knit? Do you already know how, but wish there was a cool group you could hang out and chat with while you made scarves and fingerless gloves?

Well, then you’ve found the right place for you! Starting tomorrow (Friday, January 7th) at 3pm in the Copley Teen Room I will be teaching the basics of knitting to anyone willing to learn.

We have yarn and some needles, but if you have your own, please feel free to bring them along! If you borrow needles and yarn you’ll have to leave them at the library, but if you bring your own, you can practice at home too!

We also have a great selection of books on knitting, so feel free to browse our collection and take something home to help you learn even more about knitting!

We also take yarn and needle donations, so if you have knitting items you don’t think you’ll ever get around to using again, feel free to drop them off in the Copley Teen Room!

No Teens Knit! @ Copley This Week

Posted on May 24th, 2010 by Anna in Events

This is just a simple reminder post for those who are currently knitting every Thursday or who may be thinking about it: There is no Teens Knit! this week. When we meet up again next week, I’ll tell you all about my trip to New York City to the Book Expo of America.

Also, we got a few new yarn colors in! Yay! So next week, June 3rd, come in and see our new yarn choices. I’m not sure, but there might be more on the way too.  See you then!

Teens Knit! at Copley

Posted on March 11th, 2010 by Anna in Programs

For those of you who are interesting in learning how to knit, or relearning, or continuing how to learn the basics, we have a knitting group specifically for teens held at Copley in the Teen Room every Thursday from 3-5pm.

The following Thursdays we will NOT be meeting:

March 18th

March 25th

We’ll pick it up again on April 1st

But there will be NO knitting on April 8th.

Once again we’ll pick it up on April 15th and continue with our once a week schedule.

For those teens beyond the basic level who want to learn something a little more complicated such as knitting a hat or a bag, we are looking to get a professional knitter in to teach a workshop. All you need to do is talk to Anna Draves (Teen Librarian at Copley) and let her know you’re interested along with what you want to learn to make. The more people who agree on a project the better because this will only be a one project workshop.  This workshop would be once a week for a few weeks, depending on how complicated the chosen project is, and is currently not on the schedule.

While the regular Teens Knit! group does not require anyone to sign up, the Advanced knitting workshop will so we know there are teens interested before we put it on the calendar.

If you have any questions regarding either of these programs or would like to sign up, don’t hesitate to stop into the Teen Room at Copley or call 617-859-2334.
