How many of you watched the opening ceremony? I have heard mixed reviews but I thought it was great. I thought the cauldron lighting was very creative although I felt a bit like watching something from The Hunger Games. The only bad part I think is there is that people won’t be able to see the cauldron wherever they are in the Olympic stadium area. When I went to the Sydney 2000 Olympics, I felt very proud to see the flame in almost every spot where I stood.

Here are a few pictures of the cauldron:

1. What you see from the ground:

2. This is what you saw from right underneath the cauldron… and I think this is absolutely amazing… what do you think?

Isn’t this the coolest thing? It makes me think something in space.

What is your favorite sport in the Olympics? Are you looking forward to seeing any of the competitions? I am looking foward to gymnastics but especially the Taekwondo event. I have to wait until August 8th for it to begin. In 2000, I went to the Olympic games for only one day. I went to the Taekwondo competition. 2000 was the first year Taekwondo was part of the Summer Olympic Games. I took Taekwondo but Olympic style Taekwondo is so different. It’s sparring with specific ways to get points. In the men’s competition under 68kg, Steven Lopez from the United States won the gold medal. I thought there were quite a few great atheletes who participated and represented their countries well.

Enjoy the London 2012 Olympic Games whatever your choice of event may be…. http://www.london2012.com/
