Pride Parade 2012

This was the first year the Central Library’s Teen Council got a chance to march in the Pride Parade. Homework and studying kept several members home, but Hyori and Jervani came out to join Jessi (our recently promoted Youth Services Coordinator) and myself.

Together we had a great time in the parade walking not too far away from Mayor Menino at the front of the parade. There were a lot of people along the parade route cheering the parade on. A lot of churches, organizations, and businesses were there. Seeing all the love and support was very uplifting and totally awesome!

Here are some pictures I snapped of Hyori, Jessi, and Jervani:

Teens are welcome to join Boston Public Library staff, The Teen Council of the Central Library, and Mayor Thomas M. Menino to walk in the Pride Parade this Saturday, June 9! The Teen Council will be making t-shirts to wear for the event. Anyone who wishes to join can make their own shirt, too.

The Pride Parade starts at noon on Boylston Street and Clarendon St. and ends at Government Center. Anyone interested in joining should email teen librarian Anna Draves at adraves@bpl.org.

March 2011 Teen Talent Show!

Posted on March 30th, 2011 by Anna in Events

Last Friday at the Copley branch of the Boston Public Library the Teen Council hosted a talent show where anyone could perform and anyone could watch. There was a wide range of performances from classical piano numbers, to pop songs being sung, beat poetry, and one man acts that were absolutely amazing!

In celebration of the event, we have several pictures to post on the blog and share with the world:

Poetry Slam Time at the BPL

Posted on February 11th, 2011 by Anna in Events

Wednesday night we had a very rousing Poetry Slam at the Copley branch of the BPL! It was hosted by the Teen Council and there was free coffee, hot chocolate, and doughnuts to give it the air and feeling of a real Poetry Slam. Besides, who doesn’t like free food? Especially when there’s sugar involved.

The night was a rousing success, and even others who came to watch took some time to prepare something to wow the crowd. There was poetry, singing, and even a little piano music thrown in for good measure. Overall, everyone seemed to have a great time, and rest assured, we’ll definitely be doing this again!

Here are some pictures from the event:
