The Musick in the Tragedy of Macbeth.
Richard Leveridge
ca. 1744-1768

Richard Leveridge composed this score for an adaptation of Macbeth in 1702. While modern audiences are accustomed to the serious, somber tone of Macbeth, 17th-, 18th-, and early 19th-century viewers would have expected Macbeth to be filled with songs and elaborate musical interludes. This manuscript, which dates from the mid-1700s, is a copy of Leveridge’s score. (MS G.4060.13)
