I lost my job a couple of months ago, and I tried to find a way to learn and improve my English, stay connected, and meet new people. When I found the ESL classes on the BPL website , I decided to try it out. I'm very happy that I did because I met a lot of kind people that helped me get through this difficult time. I learned about other cultures and how English can unite people from all around the world. - Monika
I love the simplicity inside the Connolly Branch; it feels like an oasis in busy Hyde Square. I can check out the cookbooks, travel section, children's books, and new reads in one stroll and gather an armful to take home. I enjoy the community art and programs-they even had a pie-making class at Thanksgiving!-Anonymous, Connolly Branch
I have always been blown away by the work of the boston Public Library and what they do for their patrons. Not only from the resources they have available, such as passes to museums, but even just the ability to have books sent to a specific branch of the Library so it's easier to pick them up. I also have greatly enjoyed receiving recommendations of new books to read from librarians through their online form. Through the use of this service, I have found and enjoyed some truly terrific books. - Anonymous
"I've always been a big reader, but with the pandemic, I feel like I have sought comfort in books even more than usual. Even before the library was open for pick-ups, eBooks (through Overdrive and Hoopla) were a lifeline, a way to stay sane, a way to escape for a few hours at a time. And with books from my hold list now flooding in, it's been nice to have an extremely minor and silly stress (how and when am I going to read all of these books??) to balance out everything else that is stressful in the world." - Sydney P.
I took a Tech Goes home class at the BPL. It was such a pleasure to get together with a diverse group of people with a common goal, for us to learn how to navigate the internet and get our computers going. I was thrilled to see so many resources and classes on the library website. I love opportunities to learn something new. TGH does not disappoint. - CeCe
"I moved here last January. I couldn't speak English well...During this pandemic, I couldn't speak to anyone without my husband. but, last month, I found this ESL class on the internet. Now, I can speak to someone who lives here in English. It is very helpful. I no longer feel alone. Thank you." - I.S.
