Loan Periods

Borrowing and Circulating Information

Most library materials are due 21 days from the date they are borrowed:

  • Books
  • CDs
  • Books on CD
  • Magazines (Neighborhood branches only)
  • Literacy material

Downloadable audio, video, music and ebooks are checked out for 14 days.

Videos, DVDs and circulating magazines are due 7 days from the date they are borrowed.

Museum passes are due before 12 noon on the next day that library is open.

Special materials may be subject to shorter loan periods.

The date to return the item(s) you borrow appears on the receipt printed or sent electronically to you at the time of checkout.

Most research material may be used only within the Central Library and must be returned to the issuing desk the same day. Some research material may be restricted to use in certain reading rooms.

The library reserves the right to limit the number of items to be borrowed. The number must be reasonable, i.e. it must be consistent with the needs and rights of other borrowers.

The library limits the number of DVDs an individual may borrow to 10 at a time and the number of active hold requests for DVDs to 50.
