BPL by Bike is Boston Public Library’s bike-powered outreach service, using bikes and a book trailer to set up mobile libraries throughout the city. We visit parks, community festivals, block parties, public concerts, and other locations, provided BPL by Bike staff feel it is a bike-friendly, safe spot to bring the bike trailer to and from the library. Massachusetts residents can sign up for a Boston Public Library card, browse and borrow books, learn about BPL programs and resources, and more when the BPL by Bike visits.
In 2014, Boston Public Library partnered with Boston Bikes to create BPL by Bike as a way to bring library services to locations throughout the city. BPL by Bike, formerly called Bibliocycle, was designed and built by Boston resident and cyclist Jon Ramos.
If you would like to have BPL by Bike visit your event or organization this season, please email the Manager of Community Learning, Jessica Elias, at jelias@bpl.org. BPL by Bike season runs from approximately April to October, weather permitting.
