The Boston Public Library is primarily funded by the City of Boston, with a smaller percentage provided through the Massachusetts state budget and library trust funds. These funding allotments pay for personnel and for our spaces, which leaves minimal funding to activate our locations.
A donation to the BPL helps us to bring our collections to life through lectures, author talks, children's literacy programs, teen tech courses, senior programming, and more. It also supports preservation and digitization of our extensive and invaluable special collections. There are many ways to donate to the BPL.
