BOSTON, MA - August 20, 2025 - The Boston Public Library (BPL) is partnering with GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Laufey and her global Laufey Book Club to release a special limited-edition library card ahead of Library Card Sign-Up Month in September and in celebration of A Very Laufey Day on August 24 — a worldwide fan activation designed to inspire community, creativity, and connection. This limited-edition collaborative card design is the first ever for the BPL.
The Laufey Book Club connects readers across the globe through shared monthly book selections, online monthly meetings, and social accounts. By teaming up with BPL, the card launch aims to encourage more people to visit their local library, discover new books, and connect with others in their community.
The limited-edition Boston card design, available starting on August 24, features an original design inspired by the Louis Saint-Gaudens’s sculpted lions iconic to the Central Library alongside the Laufey Book Club crest and BPL logo.
The bespoke Boston Public Library design is one of five Laufey Book Club collaborative public library cards launching around the world in celebration of A Very Laufey Day. Los Angeles County, Phoenix, Fulton County, GA, and Reykjavík, Iceland are the other partner libraries.

ABOUT THE BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Established in 1848, the Boston Public Library is a pioneer of public library service in America. It was the first large, free municipal library in the United States; the first public library to lend books; the first to have a branch library; and the first to have a children’s room.
The Boston Public Library of today is a robust system that includes the Central Library in Copley Square, 25 neighborhood branches, the Norman B. Leventhal Map and Education Center, the Kirstein Business Library and Innovation Center, and an archival center, offering public access to world-class special collections of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, and prints, along with rich digital content and online services.
The Boston Public Library serves nearly 4 million visitors per year and millions more online. All of its programs and exhibitions are free to all and open to the public. The Boston Public Library is a department of the City of Boston, under the leadership of Mayor Michelle Wu. To learn more, visit bpl.org.
ABOUT LAUFEY
Laufey has captivated a generation with virtuosic songs of love and self-discovery by manifesting her vision of jazz- and classical-infused pop music. After becoming the youngest ever recipient of the GRAMMY for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album (for Bewitched), the Icelandic-Chinese composer and singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist further crystalizes her singular sound on A Matter of Time. “I’m constantly thinking about classical and jazz, how to properly preserve them and pay homage.” For this album she continues to do so while also feeling freer than ever to, as she puts it, “let my heart wander.” To that end, Laufey teams with fellow producers Spencer Stewart and Aaron Dessner to break the set of expectations she herself set, serving up a transcendent sound and honest writing that cuts to the heart. It’s the culmination of an incredible journey that began with her playing cello with the Iceland Symphony as a teen before writing her first charting single while studying jazz at Berklee College of Music. Laufey’s many achievements have since grown to include over 5 billion global streams, the biggest jazz LP debut in Spotify history, an album in Billboard’s Top 20, a pile of Platinum plaques, a Forbes 30 Under 30 designation, and, in 2025, being named one of TIME’s Women of the Year. She’s also sold out the Madison Square Garden, Crypto.com Arena, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and London’s Royal Albert Hall; performed backed by the LA Phil, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra; shared the stage with the likes of Jon Batiste, Noah Kahan, Hozier, and Raye; and collaborated on record with artists including Barbra Streisand, Role Model, Beabadoobee and Norah Jones.
ABOUT THE LAUFEY BOOK CLUB
Books and storytelling have always been very important to Laufey, especially as a songwriter. In August 2022, Laufey decided to more openly share this passion with her fans by founding the Laufey Book Club, which now has accumulated a dedicated following of 350K+ people across socials. The Laufey Book Club provides an important secondary outlet for Laufey to communicate directly with her fanbase, share her inspirations and deepen the connection with the club members through shared discussion.
