Meet Nga (Jenny) Chan, Special Library Assistant at the Faneuil Branch! This post is part of our "Behind the Scenes at the BPL" blog series featuring just some of the humans that keep Boston Public Library running.
Where are you from?
I am originally from Hong Kong, I came to Boston after living in Toronto, Canada for many years. Boston is very different from where I lived before, yet it is easy to love this very historical city in America.
What brought you to the library?
I worked as Library Aide in my neighborhood briefly and I always wanted to come back and get more involved with the library. Eventually I got an opportunity to come back as a Library Assistant.
What do you do in your job day-to-day? As supervisor of the circulation desk at Faneuil Branch in Brighton, my day-to-day routines are to be sure the operation is smooth and patrons are getting the attention and services that we provide. It is all about team effort every day.
What is one of the most surprising things you’ve found working at the Boston Public Library?
The most surprising thing about working at the library is that there are so many more services that the library has to offer beyond books. We organize adult, teen, and children’s programs, and patrons can obtain help in areas of technology and research for resources they need.
What is your favorite food?
I love Chinese food, not a surprise, especially any noodles in any style of cooking. Old-fashioned Chinese-style bake goods just bring back many sweet memories from my childhood in Hong Kong. Luckily, I still can find some of them in Boston's Chinatown. Check out the beautiful pictures in the book Mooncakes and Milk Bread.
Other titles on Chinese food and cooking are also available at the BPL.
