The Boston Public Library partners with Boston Basics on many of our early literacy initiatives, including the Future Readers Club. The Boston Basics campaign focuses on families with children three and under. 80% of brain growth happens in the first three years of life. Boston Basics aims to reduce gaps between socio-economic, racial, and ethnic groups. Through everyday interactions, parents and caregivers can help their children's brains develop.
The five basics are:
- Maximize love, manage stress
- Talk, Sing, and Point
- Count, group, and compare
- Explore through Movement and Play
- Read and Discuss Stories
Over the next few months we will continue to explore these five basic concepts with information, book lists, and more.
