Children's librarians across Boston are getting ready for Summer Reading. The Boston Public Schools sends home lists of recommended books. Parents of school-age children work hard to prevent the summer slide. But summer reading isn't only for big kids. The Boston Public Library (BPL) has fun activities planned all summer for babies, toddlers, and preschool children. Reading, talking, singing, and playing with little ones helps their brains grow. BPL branches across the city will have summer reading events for little ones. Come find the summer early literacy activities that are right for your family.
Preschool children will love the Exploration Stations at the Egleston Square Branch on Tuesdays. Kids 3 and older can build with LEGO, Lincoln Longs, and other toys at Tinker Tuesdays at the Mattapan Branch. Enjoy the summer weather at the Courtyard Storytime Program at the Central Library.
Mariana Iranzi will perform a bilingual family concert in English and Spanish at the Jamaica Plain Branch on July 6. Young Red Sox fans will meet Wally the Green Monster at Making Books Come Alive at the West End Branch on July 19. Blast off with Rosalita's Puppets at the Space Show August 1 at the Faneuil Branch. Would your kids like to meet a Boston Harbor Islands Ranger? Come to the Puppets and Pawprints storytime at the Egleston Square Branch August 19.
Many BPL locations also continue their regular storytime programs through the summer. Get ready to sleep with Bedtime Stories at the Hyde Park Branch on Monday evenings. Come to the Roslindale Branch on Tuesdays for Toddler Stories and Songs. Bring babies and toddlers to the Chinatown Branch on Wednesdays for a Baby Storytime and Play Group. Babies and toddlers can explore different materials at Honan-Allston's Sensory Hour on Thursdays. Codman's Square has Stories Stories Stories for kids between two and five on Fridays.
