Access Library Services From Home

While our locations remain closed, we still have many library services available to you from home.

Update: We have compiled comprehensive guides to resources that you can use at home. You can find them at https://guides.bpl.org/remote.

Streaming and Downloadable Collections

You don't need to visit the library to find something good to read, watch or listen to. We have large collections of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, movies, and TV series for you to enjoy on your own computer or mobile device.

Visit our Stream & Download page to learn more. If you've never used these services before, we've created video tutorials you can use to get started.

You can also search our catalog just for titles you can access from home. This includes OverDrive and Hoopla titles, but also many titles from our physical collections that have been digitized and are freely available online.

Online Resources

If you're working on a research project for school or work, we provide you with access to over 150 subscription databases and other online services you can use. And they're not just for research!

Personalized Reading Recommendations

Have you worked your way through that stack of books on your nightstand? Tell us what you enjoy reading and we can recommend new titles and authors to try. Our Reader Services librarians will try to recommend titles you can get in eBook and downloadable audiobook formats so you don't have to go anywhere to enjoy them.

Reach out to us using Shelf-Service. You can also find curated reading recommendations on your own using Novelist Plus.

We've also got a wealth of information right on our website from blogs and book lists to articles about our special collections. Explore all we have to offer.

eCards

If you have a Boston Public Library card, you can use it to access all these services. If you don't have a library card yet or if yours has expired, you can register for an eCard. If your primary residence is in Massachusetts, you are eligible. Also, people who commute to their workplace in Massachusetts, own a home in Massachusetts, or are living here while attending school are eligible to register.
